What’s Happening...

No lazy summer days for the staff at Wired Solutions. We have some exciting projects going on in our office. We recently started the new website for the Song Writers Association of Canada. The website for this national organization dedicated to Canadian composers, lyricists and songwriters is getting a complete makeover. The new website will be managed by the Song Writers Association and includes interactive features to create a community portal for its members.

The Amherstburg Recreation Complex is also gearing up for their website launch. The new website will be launched as the Community Foundation website to help generate donations for the building of the new recreation complex. Stay tuned for the announcement of the launch in September’s edition of Word up!

The Power of Good Pictures

How many times have you been in this situation? It’s Saturday morning and you sit with a fresh brewed cup of coffee and the morning newspaper to catch up on the things happening in your world. You browse the headlines, briefly scanning the articles when something catches your attention. For some reason that picture in the center of page three entices you to read the entire article and find out what it’s all about.

A picture is worth a thousand words and just as that picture caught your eye in the morning paper, the pictures on your website can do the same.

Professional images on your website tell potential customers that you are serious about your business, by giving your product or service an expert look. When you include images of people on your site, make sure they are warm and inviting. A professional photographer will be able to adjust the lighting and setting to make the people on your website look their best. The same thing goes for product shots. When potential customers can’t hold or touch the product they are interested in buying, a great product shot can make or break the deal.

If you can’t afford to hire models or a professional photographer, there are some great low cost alternatives available. Stock photography sites usually offer decent royalty free images at very reasonable prices. The pitfall is that these images are downloaded and used over and over again. The artists make a small profit each time the photo is downloaded, and they can be downloaded thousands of times, rather than selling the rights of the image to one company.

Lesson Learned!

Digital Cameras and other technologies in photography have taken us a long way, but there is more to a great shot than just pointing and shooting. Although taking your own pictures for your site may seem like a great way to save money, investing in a professional photographer can pay off in the long run by making your website look more professional and showing off the full potential of your products.
