XpressLab is a fully bilingual, user-friendly online language proficiency testing platform that supports the creation, delivery, and evaluation of language and skills assessments. The platform successfully accommodates test takers, test authors, test evaluators, and high-stakes testing environments by offering a number of test types and formats, such as: listening, reading, and cloze passage tests, grammar and writing tasks, and speaking tests.

XpressLab is currently licensed for use as a software as a service (SaaS) offering through government contracts within the Ontario Ministry of Education and eLearning Ontario. In addition, a customized version of the XpressLab platform is currently licensed for use by the University of Ottawa and the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI), where the platform successfully supports thousands of test takers, as well as test administrators, and adjudicators per year.

The XpressLab platform has recently undergone a thorough upgrade of features and functionality, which poise the system for additional growth within the higher education market, as well as within organizations that require employment candidate language evaluations, and among private and public K-12 institutions within Canada and abroad. As a result, we are currently seeking an experienced Business Development Sales Manager to expand our existing client base by uncovering new business opportunities. In addition, the Business Development Sales Manager will be tasked with developing effective sales and marketing plans, generating, closing and nurturing leads and helping to launch the XpressLab platform within additional higher education facilities, in organizations seeking employment candidate language evaluations, and within additional Ministries of Educations across Canada and abroad.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the marketing team to uncover, organize and maintain sales & marketing collateral
  • Establishing new business opportunities by developing sales strategies, market research and lead generation
  • Develop prospect databases
  • Develop and maintain CRM databases
  • Qualifying and capturing new business to achieve set sales targets
  • Actively develop and contribute to XpressLab's growth strategy and wider business plan
  • Responsible for working with leads throughout the entire sales funnel, which involves growth strategies, sales planning, and ongoing CRM
  • Assess new business opportunities and develop strong business cases to support these initiatives
  • Development of term sheets and transition plans
  • Define, develop and communicate go to market strategy with relevant success metrics
  • Support early stage roll out of new ventures
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all our assets are leveraged to maximize results

While it is important to be able to source new business, XpressLab is also seeking someone who can excel at discovering and building relationships with key clients in the education industry. The successful candidate will therefore require strong interpersonal skills (including skills in relationship building, negotiation and persuasion), and a strong understanding of selling to educational facilities and organizations within the public sector. This role will suit an individual who has experience in a similar fast-paced dynamic sales, education, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) environment.

As a member of the team, we will rely on you to undertake a range of diverse projects that will help assess and deploy innovative new opportunities for XpressLab. Reporting to the Project Manager/Founder and the marketing team, you will be required to research and analyze new markets, business models and partnerships and assist in the deployment of these projects. You will gather and analyze data and information, then synthesize and package key findings for high level discussion. This role will encompass a number and variety of complex projects and success will require a results-oriented self-starter who is highly analytical, an independent strategic thinker, has a solid marketing acumen and previous sales experience specifically relating to the education industry.
